Cellular Pathology Scientists Storms Abuja For 2nd Annual Conference:

Cellular Pathology Scientists gathered on Tuesday 8/11/16 morning at the National hospital, Abuja in a one week conference tagged ' Advanced In Molecular Technique In Targeted Breast Cancer Diagnosis'.Activities for the opening ceremony chaired by Dr. G.C. Okara, the oratorial 'AMLSN Encyclopedia' kicked off with a courtesy visit to the CMD, National hospital who called for collaboration between Doctors and Medical Laboratory Scientists for the health sector to move forward. His representative at the opening ceremony, Dr. Amin who is also HOD, pathology dept., National hospital commended cellular pathology scientists for their quest for knowledge and capacity building encouraged them not to relent on their effort. Dr. G.C. Okara in his address praised the organizational prowess of cellular pathology scientists in Nigeria and urged other specializations in MLS to form such technical bodies to promote knowledge and capacity building. Important academicians at the event include Prof. Okechi Obioma, Prof. Charles Onyenekwe, Prof. Godwin Avwioro, Vice President of SCPSN, Dr. Ashi Robert, AMLSN 2nd Vice President, Abuja AMLSN chairman, Mr. Ndubuisi Ebitea, Dr. Cashmier Infeanyi, Mr. Igwe, and représentative of AMLSN President, Mr. Soji Billyrose. The Ag. Registrar, Mr. Tosan Erhabor was represented by Mr. Wale Akinlabi.



Day 2 At The SCPSN COnference, National Hospital, Abuja.

The second day kicked off with participant's registration. Lectures lined up for the day include:
1. Theory and Practice Of Analyticals In IHC By Mrs. Badirat Lawal
2. Antibody Optimization and Validation For IHC By Dr. Martins Infeanyi Chukwu
3. IHC Slide staining, ER, PR, HER-2, GFAP and Cytokeratins 7, 18 by. Mr. Jonathn Madukwe
4. Normal Histology of The Breast:By Mr. Sunday Igwe

In the first lecture delivered by Mr. Benard Solomon on behalf of Mrs. Badirat Lawal who was unavoidably absent, a memory lane on the history of IHC staingn was well laid out followed by different types of methods for antigen-antibody staining, advances made, challenges of IHC, standardization, the Nigerian situation, future prospects and need for expansion of undergraduate training in IHC including post-graduate taining in Nigerian Universities, a task seen as not impossible.
Dr. Martins in his lecture reviewed the basic immunology of antigen-antibody reactions, validation, verification, standardization and optimization. He emphasized the opportunities for in-country production of antibodies and detection kits.
In his own lecture, Mr. Igwe took the audience round basic histology of the female mammary gland.
He also touched normal histology lactating breast, menopausal breast, trans-sexual breast, hormone induces breast and aging breast.
He gave good habits in keeping healthy breast and harped on the need for regular breast examination.
Two companies made product presentations viz DCL and Biorapid diagnostics.


Mr. Godwin Ihimekpen, the Executive Secratary, AMLSN was also present on the second day where he announced that the AMLSN E-learning platform will launch a new course in IHC before the end of the year. The representative ofAMLSN President, Soji Billyrose also
joined participants to enjoy the lectures and hands-on training.
The day's lecture ended with special prayers for the President of the Society, Pa. Joseph Ogunwuyi who is currently hospitalized in Lagos.
