Trouble As Federal Minister Of Health Rocks Medical Laboratory Council Boat!

Uneasy lies the head that wears the crown as things aren't looking good for the Nigerian ministry of Health over its parochial sacking of the Registrar/CEO of the Medical Laboratory Council of Nigeria, Prof. Anthony Emeribe.  The communication of the relief from the post was conveyed in a letter signed by the Director of Hospital services, Dr. Osinubi on behalf of the Minister of Health.
Many onlookers are smelling rat as there is never a smoke without fire.
However, the sacked registrar has gone to the National Industrial Court to challenge the perceived injustice as no one knows what step the Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists of Nigeria will take on the matter. For now, fingers remain crossed.

Friday, 19th February is a day Medical Laboratory Scientists will never forget in a hurry.  The shocking news of the advertisement of the super-active Registrar of MLSCN, Prof. Emeribe hits cyberspace like a tsunami.  'Why at this time; is it because of the recent mass inspection of Laboratories in Lagos, hope it's not because of the National Industrial Court judgement; is it as a result of the petition written against him by unions; perhaps may be it is his internal detractors?' Many questions begging for answers.  Opinions remain divided on the matter and how to resolve it.  For the TYR led National Executive Council, silence remains the best answer at this time in order not to expose their strategies to the enemy's camp.

'Stop Peddling Impossible Rumours'TYR
Riding on the shocking manner Prof. Emeribe was relieved from the post of the Registrar and the unguided comment of a contributor in an online forum, the President of AMLSN, Alhaji Toyosi Raheem has urged members to stop peddling impossible rumours especially at this trying period in the life of the Association warning against flying the cat of a Pathologist being appointed as Registrar of the Medical Laboratory Council of Nigeria (MLSCN).

Town Planner Supports MLSCN On NICN Judgement
The victory of the Medical Laboratory Council of Nigeria over the Medical Council of Nigeria (MDCN) has started gaining public support following the publication of the judgement recently in Nigerian dailies.
The support is coming from Mr. Moses Ogunleye, a Town Planner who submitted as follows
'I am a Town Planner and I have followed the case between Medical Doctors and MLSCN on who can practice the profession of Medical Laboratory Science. The judgment of the National Industrial Court of January 27, 2016 has cleared it all. I m surprised that in this age of high grade of specialization, Medical Doctors will still see themselves as 'master of all" or as 'first among equals'. I am very pleased that the Council decided to take the matter up in the Court. I also congratulate the Council for making all professional Medical Laboratory Scientists proud. I thank you also for publishing the judgment in The Guardian of February 19,2016,otherwise I would not be aware of the outcome. God bless all the professionals in Nigeria.'

Drama At MLSCN: Emeribe Hands Over To Okoro While FMOH Appoints Omotuyi
Drama and intrigues cum clash of interest continue to trail the recent sack of Prof. 'Tony Emeribe as CEO/Registrar of the Medical Laboratory Council of Nigeria.  Emeribe handed over to Dr. Lawrena Okoro as the most senior Director while according to the FMOH, records show that Mrs. Omotuyi is the most senior hence her official appointment as acting Registrar.
Things like this isn't new in the profession as similar event occurred in 2010 at the expiration of the tenure of Lady E.U. Okonkwo.

Medical Laboratory Scientists in Nigeria wishing to renew their annual practicing licenses and other payments to the Medical Laboratory Council will now have to use the Remita platform according to the recent release by the regulatory body.
