Another Bad Omen As Minister Of Health Condemns Warning Strike

Another Bad Omen As Minister Of Health Condemns Warning Strike
The minister of health, Professor Onyebuchi Chukwu in his characteristic
hard line posture has condemned the recent 3 days warning strike by member of the
Joint Health Sector Unions (JOHESU). In a report made available through the guardian news online,
the minister chastised the workers for the action claiming that they were 'unfair' to government.
But who feels the pinch most? Is it not the person wearing the shoes?   Keen observers of events in the health sector believe that the minister is economical with the truth.

Another Wonder In FMC Birnin-Kebbi-Chief MLS Vacates Office For Fresh Consultant Haematologist
What would you say about a chief MLS who willingly vacates his office for a newly employed
consultant haematologist thus voluntarily seeding leadership of the laboratory to same?
Some think it is insane. Others say it is sheer cowardice. But how long would this kind of episode
continue in that center. Some has asked the junior MLS there to rise up and fight to preserve their future
which the chief MLS is about selling out. Do they have the gut for such?  Nobody can answer that question but the MLS themselves.
One thing is however clear; the less knowledgeable our people are about the statutory scheme of service and the MLSCN law, the more vulnerable they'll be to external aggression.

Toyosi Raheem Delivers 'Killer' Punch- 'Nigerian Medical Doctor Is Ego-Driven'
In a classical support article to the one earlier written by another colleague the penultimate
sunday, Toyosi Raheem, the 1st Vice President of AMLSN has delivered what could be aptly described as a killer punch
to knock down the excesses of the ego-driven Nigerian medical doctor in
a well published article by the Nation newspapers last sunday. With this follow up article, it is now
clear that the 'lab boys' of those days has refused to remain in the enclave. They now want to
be heard by the public.

G.C. Okara Endorses Challenge on Decree 10 By Akhere Obumese
When it was earlier reported that a yeoman's hatchet job is being done by Akhere Obumese, a medical
laboratory scientist at Irua Specialist Hospital through the suit he filled at the Benin High Court
to seek interpretation of the controversial decree 10 of 1985, some commentators retorted that
individual effort couldn't be the best at this time. Yet his effort has received the endorsement
of the President of AMLSN, Dr. G.C. Okara who submitted that the zeal enthused by Obumese must be encouraged
rather than condemned. Call that endorsement for judicial activism? Brighter days surely lies ahead.

John Reeder Now Director At WHO
The World Health Organisation  (WHO) has announced the appointment of Professor John Reeder as the
new Tropical Disease Research (TDR) director. The widely acclaimed Medical Scientist of high repute is billed
to resume his new post in 2012. If the Nigerian dogma would apply, doctors will rise up to shut down that appointment since
he is not a medical doctor.

ABUTH Technicians Squares Up With MLS
The Medical Lab. Technicians in ABUTH has petitioned the management of the hospital
to checkmate MLS in the center. And in a swift reaction, the management has queried
the MLS to explain their action. But technicians are direct subordinates of the MLS. Both
cadre are regulated by the Medical Laboratory Science Council Of Nigeria (MLSCN). The politics
of the scenario is not hidden to well discerning MLS who understands that the technicians are only
being used by the doctors to sabotage her struggle for freedom.

'Create The Directorate Of Medical Laboratory Services In Bauchi Teaching Hospital Now!'-John Nwachukwu
Reacting to a post by Obayoriju Tayo that the Pathology Department of Bauchi Teaching Hospital is headed
by a medical laboratory scientist, John Nwachukwu has warned the scientists there not to be fooled
by the current seeming comfort as the tide may change when a pathologist come on board.
A word for the wise you may say. The medical laboratory scientist will have guaranteed their future
by making sure that a directorate for medical laboratory services is created there now while they have
the 'floor' to dance. Complacency may spell doom!

Trouble For Nigerian Trained Doctor In UK
Graduates from nine universities in Nigeria has been blacklisted from
pursuing any medial career in the UK. This is coming at a time agitation
is rife in Nigeria about the deteriorating quality of medical practice which
the medical doctors has persistently denied. But truth always has it's day even
if lie travels for donkey years!
